Opera GX vs Chrome both browsers have their own uniqueness and both have different features. Opera GX browser is called a Gaming browser as it contains many unique and interesting features,
while on the other hand, Google’s chrome is also a famous browser. So apart from this in this post, we are going to compare Opera GX vs Chrome and see which is more good Opera GX or Chrome, we will also see which browser uses more resources as compared to the other one. To do this we are going to perform some tests using my old Dell Vostro 15 Series with 4GB Ram, Core i3 with Intel HD Graphics, and no SSD.
How many Resources Does Chrome Use?
With no Tabs Opened – RAM and CPU Usage
In this test, we have monitored the usage of the Chrome browser on a laptop with 4 GB Ram, Intel CORE i3 with Intel HD Graphics, and no SSD. When we opened Chrome with no tabs the Ram usage went from 1.71 GB to 1.86 GB and the CPU usage went from 6% to 9%.
After closing chrome, I noticed that it’s still running in the background which is kinda weird because every time you want to close it you have to go through task manager to completely close the Chrome software.
While using Youtube – RAM and CPU Usage
While using Youtube in chrome, chrome’s RAM usage went from 1.86 GB to 1.90 GB and the CPU usage went from 9% to 20%. So we can clearly see that opening a lot of tabs will heavily slow down your system performance, that’s why I faced some lags using this old laptop.
How many resources does Opera GX use?

After this test, I realized in some places Opera wins in saving resources, and in some places chrome wins. However Opera GX does have a unique feature named GX Control which lets you see the CPU and ram usage of a particular tab, It also allows you to limit and control the resources the Opera GX browser will use.
While using Youtube – Opera GX RAM and CPU Usage
In the Ram department, the opera GX used 200 MB more than the Chrome browser, but in the CPU department, the opera GX browsers used 1% CPU less than Chrome.
A final thought on Opera GX vs Chrome
We can’t say which browser is better than the other because both have unique features, Opera GX browser which is also known as a Gaming browser has some unique and advanced features, however, Opera GX’s interface and UI are kinda Sci-fi based is why sometimes it used more resource as compared to chrome.
Since Opera GX have got many new and unique features peoples are willing to use it. So what is best? what browser will you choose? So, the short answer is, it depends on the demand and interest of your’s if you want to try new features and some gaming like sci-fi UI you can go for Opera GX browser, we can’t say which is more good Opera GX or Chrome.
