Grand theft auto 5, a.k.a GTA 5, has captivated games worldwide since its release ten years ago in 2013. Due to its vast open world map set in the fictional city of Los Santos, which is heavily based on Los Angeles and the surrounding areas in Southern California. The mythical city is so similar some hardcore gamers even stated:

To this day, Rockstar, with contact updated and with the help of GTA Online (an Online version of Grand Theft Auto V), is maintaining the game’s popularity, with millions of players still logging in to play every day. GTA 5 also has a huge community, the LSPDFR mod, a successor to the previous LCPDFR mod that was released for Grand Theft Auto 4.

It is not just a regular mod you download to get some additional vehicles of an extra character in-game; it’s a whole other game in itself. Due to the vast community of supporters & developers, the LSPDFR (not to be confused with LCPDFR, which was built for GTA IV) has evolved a great deal over the years.

The mod completely turns over the gameplay by allowing you to work as a police officer, and not just like some previous GTA games where you sit inside a police vehicle and you get some criminal pursuit missions, it’s a whole package of being and working as a law enforcement officer.

With the base modifications plus some additional features, you get to do things like traffic patrol, pull over a vehicle to check if they have insurance or any active citations, or warrants, respond to dispatch calls, run vehicle plate searches or a person ID search, interact with the NPCs, make arrests, transport the person to jail, code red shootouts. Not, only this but with extra mods you get beautiful police vehicles, uniforms, more advanced and dangerous callouts, and even a radar gun to set up a hunt for over speeders.

So, enough with the GTA 5 LSPDFR introduction, let’s talk about its features in more detail.

Personal Apartment

The LSPDFR version 0.4 adds four fully functional apartments in the single-player LSPDFR gameplay. You can use any of these apartments as spawn locations or enter anytime to catch a drink or something. All apartments are very interactive, you can get some drinks, watch TV, sleep on the bed, sit on chairs, use Radio & have a quick shower.

The apartments also consist of wardrobes you can use to change your player’s outfits, components & props. Last, but not least, you get a personal garage to park your vehicles. The game provides a black Stanier in the garage as the player’s default vehicle (you can replace the default vehicle by driving another vehicle into the garage and following on-screen instructions).

Interaction Menu

Replacing the game’s original interaction menu, LSPDFR provides its own which can be toggled open by pressing M or holding back on the controller. You get several menu options:

  • Quick GPS: Quickly set waypoints to the nearest police station, jail drop-off, fire station, medical centre, or your apartment.
  • Police Radio (On duty): Opens the police radio sub men where you can change the animation of the player’s radio placement, set your status between “Available For Calls” Or “Busy“, receive a forced dispatch callout, request a record check by person’s name or their vehicle plates. Lastly, if you are on a scene, you could request to close the nearby road for civilian traffic.
  • Vehicle: Gives you access to control some of your vehicle functions like engine, lights, opening or closing doors & hoods, turning on or off your car radio car’s police radio, and emergency lighting system.
  • Settings: Another sub-menu where you can select where the character is spawned in LCPDFR, your spawn location (i.e. police station or your apartment) & final item “Owned Apartment” sets which apartment of yours is registered as your in-game character on LSPDFR records.
  • Action: Let you perform quick actions like Drinking a coffee, eating a doughnut, dancing etc.
  • Dialogue: Say things like “Hi” or “Bye”
  • Player Mood: Set your character’s facial expression
  • Walk Style: Changes your walking animation
  • Illuminated Clothing: this allows you to control the style of any emissive clothing on your character’s outfit.

The Police Computer

Let’s say you just pulled over a person and you asked for their ID, assuming they did not decide to shoot you or start a pursuit. Now, you can either open your Police Radio sub-menu we previously talked about, or get back to your vehicle & press Q on your keyboard or X on the controller to bring up a search form. Here you can enter the person’s name of their car’s licence plate number to run a search on that person & his car. Does he have a warrant? No issue go bust him up and arrest him or you could also just issue a citation if they aren’t wanted but has other things like an expired license etc.

“Vehicle in pursuit, refusing to stop.”

Maybe the guy we just pulled over who had a warrant wasn’t such a gentleman after all & the moment you turned away he pressed his foot on the gas. What now? Hold down B on your keyboard to report to dispatch that the suspect is running away and you are in pursuit. Further, you can request additional backup units or even an air support unit to make sure he doesn’t get his way.

Worth noting Response Types:

  • Code 2: A less urgent response
  • Code 3: Important response
  • Pursuit (only during pursuits): Equivalent importance to code 3 but specifically for a pursuit
  • Transport (After arresting & putting the suspect on the ground): Code 2 important but, specifically for requesting a transport unit for the arrested suspect.

Frisk It, Risk It

Wandering around on foot in the city of Los Santos but you find a person very strange, head towards the person & hold down E on your keyboard for a few seconds. The person will stop if he’s not to cause any trouble and you can interact with them by again pressing E when standing close to them. Ask for their ID, run a check, records not well? Frisk them. You might find some illegal stuff, detain them. Simple.

Traffic Stops

Although we have already talked about traffic stops, here’s how you can initiate one:
1. Get your vehicle behind the vehicle you want to pull over (at rest or running) and press E to toggle your sirens. Now press Shift and your sirens will turn off but not your emergency lights and the suspect will be required to pull over. Press Shift again and you scream at the top of your lungs on the loudspeaker. They might not stop & try to run away, initiate a pursuit by holding down B as we talked about earlier.

Backup Menu

Toggled open by pressing B once, here you can call backups from various agencies and for various codes (code 2, 3), transport pursuit etc. You can call in SWAT, Noose, Local Police, State Police, FBI (or FIB as in-game), IAA, LSPD backup, LSSD backup, air unit, ambulance, and fire truck. Basically, every sort of backup is available.

Now, How To Install LSPDFR In GTA 5 (PC)

If you are a console gamer, and you still don’t know for some reason that games on console environments can’t be modded so let me tell you, they can’t. Consoles are mostly closed environments. You can’t install LSPDFR on any GTA 5 console versions and that is applicable to any game and any of their mods.

To install GTA 5 LSPDFR on PC, here’s how:

  1. Download manual installation or zip files for LSPD First Response
  2. For manual installation, extract the contents of the LSPDF folder you unzipped from the downloaded .zip file into the main directory of your GTA 5 installation. Replace all files when prompted
  3. For .exe installation, run the installer, select your GTA 5 installation directory when asked for and follow any on-screen instructions (check everything on the installer when asked what to install). It’s just 3-4 clicks.

After you have installed the LSPDFR mod, run your game & when the game window opens, start the RagePluginHook application in your GTA 5 main directory. It will load the LSPDFR game mod. You will be asked to set up your police character for the first time, do it, head over to any police station, get inside, go on duty, and select your outfit & vehicle and just like that You are an officer.

Wrapping Up

The inclusion of a single LSPDFR mod transforms GTA 5 into an entirely distinct experience, effectively turning it into a comprehensive simulator surpassing dedicated police simulation games. LSPDFR leverages the extensive dimensions painstakingly crafted by Rockstar through countless hours of development, allowing players to enjoy the core features and mechanics of GTA 5 within its vast open-world setting. By integrating a police mod into this foundation, the game evolves into an unparalleled police simulator, offering a unique and unmatched experience. So it would be safe to say that Yes! GTA 5 LSPDR Is The Best Police Simulator Game Yet, Possibly until GTA 6 is released and we get a new police mod for that with next-level experience.
